Tajika Dashas

1.
Introduction

The timing of events
depends upon the transit or dasha system, in which planets are assigned a
certain period of time. During this assigned period, the planets exert their
influence and cause certain events occurring in the life of a native in
accordance with changing operational periods of the dashas. This is the most
outstanding feature of the oriental astrology in its application in timing of
events. Various dashas have been discussed in respect of natal astrology.
However Tajika authors have discussed only three types of dashas viz.,
Vimshotri Mudda dasdha, Yogini Mudda dasha and Patyayini (or Patyamsha) dasha.
Out of these, first two are based on birth Nakshtra and the third on each
planet including lagna.

2.
Vimshotri Mudda Dasha or Mudda Dasha

Calculation of the dasha
is done in following stepsA:

1.
Add
to the completed year of life, the number of Moon’s Nakshtra at birth, subtract
two from the total, and divide the sum by nine. Ignore the quotient, the
remainder number will give the dasha counted from Sun, from the commencement of
the annual year in question. The deduction of two from the sum total is done to
have the counting of dasha from Sun, eliminating Ashwani & Bharini Nakshtra
of Ketu and Venus in the beginning. For example, let us take the birth chart
and annual chart for 41st year in respect of Rajiv Gandhi as given
at charts 19 & 20 above.

Completed year is 40 and
the number of Nakshtra of Moon at birth, Poorva-falguni is 11. Therefore:

(40+11-2)/ 9 or 49/9 or

We get quotient 5 and
remainder 4.

Remainder 4 means that the
dasha operating at the time of commencement of the year starting from Sun will
be of Rahu. The subsequent dasha to follow will be Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury,
Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars and Rahu.

2.
Duration of the Dasha:
The dasha period of each planet is fixed
and is given by number of years allotted to each planet in Vimshotri dasha X3
(360/ 120) Thus in an annual chart, the duration of various periods will be Sun
18 (6×3), Moon 30 (10×3), Mars 21 (7×3), Rahu 54 (18×3), Jupiter 48 (16×3),
Saturn 57 (19×3), Mercury 51 (17×3), Ketu 21 (7×3), and Venus 60 (20×3) days
respectively. This give a total of 360 days only. When 360 days are taken to
represent a year, they represent 360 “solar days”, each of which would indicate
the movement of Sun by one degree. The duration of such a solar day would be
slightly more than our normal day of 24 hours. One should accurately spread the
360 days of the Tajika dashas over 365 days of the year by proportionately
increasing the dasdha period.

3.
Working out the balance of dasha:
For this purpose, find
out the exact Longitude of the Moon at the time of birth. This gives the
Nakshtra at the time of birth as well as the extent of Nakshtra traversed by
the Moon. The extent of Nakshtra yet to be traversed will give the balance of
dasha at the time of Varshpravesh. In example chart 11, the longitude of the
Moon at birth is 4-17-8’. The Moon is in Nakshtra Poorva-falguni, which spread
from 4-13-20’ to 4-26-40’. This means that in this Nakshtra, Moon has traversed
3-48’ and the remaining period to be traversed is 9-32’ In sub-para 1 & 2
above, we see that operating dasha at the commencement of the year is Rahu and
the period of Rahu dasha is 54 days. Therefore the balance of dasha will be (54
x 9-32’)/ 13-20’ = 38;61 days or 1 month 8.61 (or say 9) days. The remaining
dasha of Rahu of 15 days will be towards the end of year after dasha of Mars.
The dasha periods for the native of chart 11 & 12, for his 41st
year starting w.e.f. 20 Aug 1984 will be as under:
