The opposition

Connects one or several planets by an angle of 180o . The planets being opposed, their qualities are not able to be manifested freely. Very bad. (In Hindu Astrology this aspect is however considered good). I tend to agree that opposition leads to conflict.

These aspects are called malefic or unharmonious, because the connecting planets are positioned within the Zodiac signs with which they have no affinity at all.

Now there are two other aspects that are important. The Parallel symbolized as “P” and conjunction with the symbol “s”. The conjunction which has no angle at all can be beneficial, if the coupled planets are of a similar nature such as:-

Moon

Jupiter

Venus

Jupiter

Venus

Moon

Sun

Jupiter

Sun

Venus

The conjunction is malefic, when the nature of the united planets don’t agree. For example:

Saturn

Mars

Sun

Mars

Uranus

Mars

The parallel, however, is of a different nature. In the Ephemeris there is a column with the heading “Declination”, which is measured by the South or North of the celestial equator, in terms of Latitude when the two planets are equidistant on either side of the celestial equator, then they are said to be situated in the same degree of declination. Immaterial of their degrees in longitude, they attract or aspect one another, and this aspect is known as the “Parallel” aspect represented by the symbol “P”. The effect of “P” is similar of that of conjunction “s”.

Of the various benefic and malefic aspects the most powerful ones are the Trine and the opposition. And the other aspects fall in this descending order of importance.
